A gorgeous, emotive, slow and effortlessly cool offering, the new single ‘Evil’ from Fright Years showcases what a promising band they are.
Coming off the back of a big 2023 for the band, the Edinburgh based 4-piece fifth single is a simple, yet beautifully constructed track which gradually grows through robust guitar tones and crisp drums and bass to create a somewhat hypnotic and introspective tone comparable to the 1975’s ‘Robbers’. With the radiant, smokey and utterly spellbind reverb soaked vocals taking centre stage the track comes to life.
The track grows into its shiver inducing chorus as the vocals soar high above the instrumental backdrop and the track gently sways into layers of subtle synths and shoe-gaze influenced guitar lines that move with a sense of euphoric freedom into the explosive crescendo.
Discussing the release, the band reveals, “Evil is our indie rom-com. It’s about attempting to make someone fall in love with you and maintaining control in the dating stage – but ultimately, you can’t dictate your feelings. Think Andie in ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 days’.”
With a bright history of success and some brilliantly crafted, impactful yet understated songwriting, Fright Years are definitely a band to keep your eye on through 2024.
