The cooler-than-thou retro-modern indie Kings from Sweden, Eskobar, are back to follow up their earlier single ‘When Your Heroes Fall’ which we reviewed last month. ‘Roller Coaster’ provides indelible proof that we are dealing with a serious bunch of musicians with an inherent talent for performance and melody.
‘Roller Coaster’ has all the insouciant swagger you could want from an indie rock band – jangling guitars, thumping rhythms and the cool, louche front man in Daniel Bellqvist who channels a nordic Stone Roses’s Ian Brown in his trancy dancing. And it has what we can expect from this band: an ear for melody and celestial choruses. Incredibly, Bellqvist is also responsible for the highly stylistic and very dynamic video clip for the song:
Eskobar are firmly entrenching themselves in the firmaments with this single: it is at the very least cathartic and entertaining indie rock delivered with skill and passion: nodding to the past with eyes firmly fixed on the future. I’m looking forward to their album ‘Chapter 2’, coming out later this year.
You can download/stream ‘Roller Coaster’ through all the usual sources. Eskobar are:
Vocals – Daniel Bellqvist
Guitars – Frederik Zäll
