I caught Skeleten live a few years ago at Altar in Hobart and was highly impressed by his soul inflected brand of pop – rich and nuanced music that had a magnetic presence on stage. His new single proves the point. ‘Deep Scene’ is as immersive and enveloping as a hot tub in the winter snow – Skeleten’s production skills have created rich, luscious soundscapes and his vocals are like a salve to the ears.
Skeleten’s songwriting displays a deep pop sensibility – there is an aching level of melancholy threaded throughout the track. A wash of synths and repetitive chorus of voices adds a celestial late night atmosphere with the ambulant bass lending an aquatic flow. The mesmerising chorus was recorded late at night with friends – Skeleten pays tribute to their contribution:
Shoutout to all my friends getting together to sing on this. Here’s hoping that everyone can be free to sink in deeply so that every minute is closer to the real coming home?
Beautiful sentiments for a beautiful song. It is the most pleasant cotton wool bed of sound that is quite hypnotic and eminently danceable – enigmatically captured in the accompanying video:
