Track: Elanor Moss Has Released Her Beautiful Debut Single ‘Soundings’

Mon Levchenkova

York songwriter Elanor Moss has shared her debut single ahead of an upcoming tour with Benjamin Francis Leftwich throughout Feb / March. ‘Soundings’, taken from her forthcoming debut EP ‘Citrus’. The first in a collection of songs written through her late teens and early twenties, takes her fascination with folk-lore’s storytelling tradition and melds it with an indie-tinged, often bracing, honest account of life as a woman in her early twenties.

Regarding ‘Soundings’ Moss Comments:

“Soundings is a portrait of my younger self at a time where I was beginning to become aware that I had some healing to do, but I wasn’t ready to yet. I didn’t want to let go of the destructive habits and face it. Contrary to the dark subject matter, I wanted there to be a catharsis and playfulness to the melodies and delivery, and a melodrama too. I wanted to capture that feeling of total self-indulgence that can come with wanting to escape in your low moments. There’s a self-awareness in the narrator’s need to disappear into a haze; you know it’s unhealthy but you do it anyway.”

From a lone strummed acoustic and a gorgeous voice this track blooms into a beautiful floating tune that is simply breathtaking in its beauty. Sounding so delicate with Moss’s fragile voice theres a strength within the lyrics and the addition of bassy electric guitar and glittering synths. We may have the next in line to the Joni Mitchell mantle.
