Track: Ebony Buckle Releases The Brooding New Single ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’

London-based conceptual pop artist Ebony Buckle continues her stellar 2024 run with the release of her third single, ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’, from her forthcoming album Hearts Get Started. Displaying dark soundscaping and experimental flare on a track that also carries an accessible pop edge, Ebony Buckle captures a strikingly unique musical approach on the new single.

Growing from the haunting piano and repeated vocal melody opf it’s opening, ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’ gradually grows introducing tight drums and plucky bass before bursting into a bright atmospheric chorus, as the drums drop out and atmospheric synth pads underpin the now soaring vocals.

Ebbing and flowing through the second verse and chorus the track reaches a climactic and beautiful closing section of ethereal overlapping synths that create a dreamlike bed for Buckle’s gliding vocals.

Speaking about the song’s inspiration, Ebony shares, “I used to drink a lot, and I think it was a way to quiet the critical voices in my brain. When I stopped five years ago, I felt so much relief that I was free of this thing that had been in the way of everything I wanted to do with my life. I felt like I had saved myself from a very different future.” The song is a personal ode to overcoming inner struggles and finding peace, highlighting the liberating power of self-discovery.

‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’ is the third single from Buckle’s upcoming sophomore album Hearts Get Started. Reflecting on the new collection, Ebony explains, “This album is a collection of songs written over several years, some of them being my oldest. It feels like a puzzle, with each song being its own world and story. When you put them together, they are stepping stones along the way of my musical adventure.”
