Track: Divorce – My Room

Flower Up

Nottingham quartet Divorce have shared their new single, ‘My Room’, which is the second new track this year from this band following the previous single, ‘Gears’. The new track also sees them linking up again with producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, Foals, Wolf Alice). The band also recently shared news of a full UK tour which will take place through October, kicking off with a sold-out four-night residency at Nottingham’s Bodega, and culminating in their biggest headline show to date at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.

Vocalist and bassist Tiger Cohen-Towell comments:

“My Room is an ode to unconditional love. These lyrics are truly some of the most emotionally vulnerable I think I’ve written to date; it speaks of a deep desire to be relaxed about showing affection toward someone that you know extremely well.  I think familiarity can be scary at times, and being truly seen can make you throw walls up between yourself and the people you want to be closest to. We had a group of wonderful kids singing on the last chorus, the children’s voices I think adds both naïveté and heaviness to the track. This really summarises the feeling we wanted to achieve with this song. It’s like being back in your childhood bedroom and crying and not really knowing why. But it’s joyous too!”

Singer Cohen-Towell delivers a bittersweet performance, proving there is beauty in melancholy. The band delivers gentle rolling rhythms of piano, guitar, and drums, showing their impressive songwriting talent for when things slow down. The track pairs well with their indie-esque brilliance of previous single ‘Gears’.
