Dexys have returned after 11 years since they released their last album of original music, with the acclaimed ‘One Day I’m Going to Soar’. The band’s new album titled ‘The Feminine Divine’, is due on the 28th of July via 100% Records and will be the band’s fifth album of original material. It sees Kevin Rowland return to music with a fresh perspective and new-found positivity. A personal, if not strictly autobiographical, record portraying a man whose views have evolved over time. Not just on women, but the whole concept of masculinity he had been raised with: an education and an un-learning that is traced across the arc of ‘The Feminine Divine’ with dizzying effect.
The announcement is joined with the release of the first single ‘I’m Going To Get Free’ soaked in horns and with a heavy dance-hall feel. “The character is optimistically breaking free from internalised trauma, depression and guilt,” Kevin Rowland said of the track.
Big horns and crisp drums in true Dexys style we are blessed once again by that fantastic Rowland tenor, as he belts out a joyous and positive vocal. Swooping backing vocals and hand claps throughout give the track a gorgeous texture as the ever present violins scratch out the track’s theme. Its a pleasure to live in a world where Dexys are making music.
