Track: Dead Original (ex-Trivium drummer Paul Wandtke) – Fade to Light

Dead Original is a grunge infused trio started by Paul Wandtke whom got his start in the music industry as a work for hire drummer (ex Trivium and the hit musical Rock of Ages). Feeling inspired to pick up a guitar, he now fronts Dead Original with Rob Lerner on drums and Dina Simone on bass.

Their new track ‘Fade To Light’ is available to listen now.

Described as a blend of grunge, groove power, simple riffs, melodic hooks and some progressive elements via some tastefully placed odd meters. Despite this being an excellent song, there is very little of what anyone would describe as grunge. There is a hint of the post grunge era in Paul’s vocals, but that’s it. There’s some great Tool esque drums and bass going on here, locking in tight to the groove and dabbling with some great time signature changes.

I can see how they landed a support slot with the upcoming Jonathan Davis tour. The Korn is strong in this one, and the vocal delivery compliments the rhythm section perfectly.

That said, this does sound like a band that hasn’t quite found it’s feet yet. One to watch, and could easily go on to great things if they make the right moves.
