Darren Hayes has today released a new track, ‘Poison Blood’ via Powdered Sugar Productions. ‘Poison Blood’ was written, orchestrated and produced entirely by Hayes in Los Angeles with mixing and mastering completed by Trevor Yasuda (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey) and Mike Bozzi (Childish Gambino, Janet Jackson).

‘Poison Blood’ is a deeply personal track on which Hayes sings about how he and family members have struggled with depression.

“’Poison Blood’ is a song about choosing to stay when everything else in your life is telling you to leave. I have a family history of depression and suicide and I talk openly about my own diagnosis it in the hope that I might inspire someone who is struggling to seek help, as I have proudly done many times throughout my life.

The track allows Hayes to showcase his falsetto voice against some sparse instrumentation and synth beats. The result is an ethereally beautiful song that illustrates Hayes’s progression as an artist and how he is unafraid to address darker themes. It stands in stark contrast to the two catchy, dance songs (‘Let’s Try Being In Love’ and ‘Do You Remember‘) that were released earlier this year.

Following his triumphant appearance at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Hayes will return to Australian stages for the first time in over a decade in January/February 2023 with his ‘Do You Remember?’ Tour – 25 Years Of Savage Garden, Solo Hits And More.
