Track: Dark-Pop Up & Comer Sofia Zadar Shares Shimmering New Single ‘RED’

Sofia Zadar shares the new odd-ball pop jam ‘RED’.

Dark, mystical, otherworld and capturing a haunting, edgy pagan undertone, the single balances pop elements with experimental electronica and dark poetic lyricism to create a vibrant originality. Opening with a swell of glitching electronics, the track soon introduces a modulated, wonderfully 80s sounding synth bass and lo-fi beats as Sofia’s vocals float elegantly above the spacious electronic backdrop.

As the track approaches the chorus, the track introduces Sofia’s spoken word chorus before bursting into a vibrant, danceable instrumental section adorned with a four to floor kick under the continued synth bass, subtle airy pads and layers of processed vocal cuts.

\As comparable to Poliça as it is to FKA Twigs but with some of the more commercial undertones of Caroline Polachek, ‘RED’ balances its pop tendencies with dark, experimental production to create something which is slap bang in the middle, and it’s all the better for it.

Speaking about the single, they share: “RED holds space for anger, for the information it unravels and the agency it restores at the core. It centers the return to a body no longer knotted by withheld rage and proposes outlets for anger outside of aggression. Live gigs are among the few places where we can release residual energies stored from stress or anger in socially acceptable ways – through screaming, uncensored movement, etc. I birthed RED precisely with this aim to create a cathartic space during gigs and listening sessions, to offer my audience and community a safe and non-aggressive space to release withheld emotion.”
