Tamara Lindeman, the creative force behind The Weather Station, has unveiled ‘Body Moves,’ a mesmerising single from her upcoming album Humanhood, which will drop in January via Fat Possum. A collaboration with co-director Philipe Léonard, the track’s video captures what Lindeman describes as “the two hemispheres of the mind.”
“One side is the planner, taking charge with precision; the other side is the dreamer, drifting in abstraction. And then there’s the actual self, caught in a state of flux, torn between these forces. The choreography reflects that tension—limbs moving with a mind of their own.”
Recorded at Canterbury Music Studios in late 2023, Humanhood was born from Lindeman’s lyrical fragments and conceptual mission statements, evolving into a richly textured sonic landscape with co-producer Marcus Paquin. Returning with the rhythm section from her previous album, Ignorance (2021)—Kieran Adams (drums), Philippe Melanson (percussion), and Ben Whiteley (bass)—the record also features avant-garde improvisers Karen Ng and Ben Boye. Together, they craft an intricate interplay of organic and synthetic textures: disco rhythms weave through clarinet wanderings, folk-inspired melodies collide with shimmering acid-wash synths, and moments of stark clarity dissolve into haunting static.
From its dissonant beginnings to its euphoric conclusion, the album explores dissociation and reconnection, reflecting Lindeman’s journey in sound, form, and lyric.
With an extensive North American tour kicking off soon, The Weather Station is poised to take audiences on a transcendent sonic trip.
