Dan Lyons and the Tenants Have shared their third single, ‘Golden Handshake’ feat Sorry’s Asha Lorenz on vocals, with an accompanying ‘cinematic’ video. The track is taken from the album ‘Shuttered Dreams’ due on the 16th of September via Shaker Records.
Dan Lyons says of the song,
“Hollywood Babylon! A falling star struggles with his existence and reminisces about the good old days, destined for a tragic and clichéd end he starts to wonder if there’s a life outside of the silver screen… “
Dan continues,
“We recorded this one near the end of the album sessions, Asha came down to the studio with my friend Sydney and I asked her if she’d sing on the middle 8 – it’s my favourite part of the song.
We had a lot of fun recording this one. It feels strangely positive, despite the subject matter, and there’s lots of weird percussion stuff going on which I like. It’s a lot looser than most of the record, feels like you’re in the room with everyone. Everybody played really well too, which helps…”
Lyons’s soft lullaby vocals over the gentle stroke of an acoustic guitar is perfection coupled with his intelligent and witty lyrics sung with such brilliant phrasing. The track morphs into an indie folk dream with the addition of drums, Lorenz’s vocals, and a buzzing guitar solo that is just as genius as the rest of the track. Everyone should hear this.
