Track: Damon Albarn’s ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’-

The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, the new studio album from Damon Albarn, will be released by new label home Transgressive Records on 12th November 2021. The title track is truly more than a suggestive indication of ex-frontman for Blur’s Damon Albarn every growing maturity as an artist in his own write. Inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, the track was originally intended as an orchestral piece. Following in the footsteps of most musicians during lockdown, this last year has seen Alburn find solace in music, resulting in an 11 track album . He explores themes of fragility, vulnerability, loss, emergence and rebirth. Indeed, the title track , taken from a John Clare poem sees Damon perform in an uncharastically nostalgic, haunting way, backed by a stunning orchestra. His vocals, layered out in poetic form over the music is highly crafted as a nod to John Clare’s own poetic form. Albarn says “I have been on my own dark journey while making this record and it led me to believe that a pure source might still exist.” Damon draws on the dichotomy of his own world, narrowing in on the beauty and chaos of the natural world, to provide a soundtrack that we can all woefully escape to. , The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows clearly is a sonic documentation intended to capture the documents the emotional ebb and flow of the human condition, resulting in a sound that truly captivates the very soul.
