Blending the dark intensity of grunge with the reverb soaked nuance of shoegaze, Irish rockers the drive capture a compelling, dark and atmospheric tone on their new single ‘living is easy.’
Produced by Keelan O’Reilly, known for his work with Post-Party, the new single opens with tribal, tom heavy drums and repeated bass lick under the emotive, yearning lead vocals. From its sparse into the track soon explodes in a sprawling and intense guitar riff, caked in distortion and cavernous reverb.
As the track continues through it’s second verse, the moody intensity continues before reaching an explosive climax. A heavy, foreboding shoegaze sound that poetically captures the struggles of everyday life, the track’s essence is driven by massive, punching drums and crushing bass-lines, which together create a juxtaposition between fuzzy, messy distortion and soft, melodic moments.
In discussing the new single, The Drive explain: “‘Living is Easy.’ is written about the feeling of being looked down upon. The track encapsulates the emotions of feeling dejected due to factors as trivial as an area of living.”
Since their formation in 2018, The Drive has rapidly established themselves as a band to watch on both local and international stages. Their unique sound and dynamic live performances have earned them widespread acclaim, with coveted spots on Spotify playlists such as ‘Alternative Ireland’ and ‘melomania.’. The trio’s notable performances include sold-out headline shows at iconic Irish venues like The Grand Social in Dublin and Cyprus Avenue in Cork, as well as support slots for esteemed acts like The K’s and The Blue Stones.
