Cork-based singer/songwriter Sarah Hickey returns with the atmospheric, gentle indie-folk sweller ‘Slow Burner’.
With a soundscape somewhere between The National, Lucy Rose and Phoebe Bridgers with flavours of R&B, ‘Slow Burner’ offers a gorgeous, rich soundscape of tremolo tinted guitars, swelling keys and minimal drums. Delicate, melancholic and beautiful, the instrumentation captures a intricate depth under Hickney’s silky smooth, breathy lead vocal.
As the track reaches the chorus, the infectious vocal line takes hold, showcasing the commercial side of the track, contrasting against the alternative-indie-folk nature of the instrumentation. Etherial, earth and utterly transportive, ‘Slow Burner’ is as much a track that you can get lost in as it is a brilliant, infectious single.
Speaking about the single Hickey explains: “Slow Burner is about leaning into your strengths and trying to avoid comparing yourself to others”
