Exciting, musically intriguing and yet retaining a youthful charm, Litvar’s latest offering ‘You Should Find A New Boyfriend’ Covers a lot of ground.
Effortlessly commercial and catchy whilst also offering some interesting musical ideas, the tracks gradual build from gentle, twinkling light instrumentation to cathartic, explosive indie is what truly makes the track shine.
Opening with a boxy electronic beat, dappled vocal samples and a twinkling arpeggiator intertwined with a harmonic heavy, picked acoustic guitar line, the track sets a light and breezy pop feel. The effortlessly charismatic, emotional and yet spiky lead vocals as the band talk about feeling strangled in a relationship with some tongue-in-cheek yet still scathing lines, giving the track a bitter edge and pulling the track forward.
At the 1:40 mark the track has an unexpected and explosive lease of life as the full live band kick in with intense guitar lines, live drums, subtle piano and driving bass enter the track, taking the track away from the electronic-pop intro and pulling it towards a more alternative-rock space.
“You Should Find A New Boyfriend” is a journey, fitting somewhere between The Wombats and (I mean this affectionately) early Panic At The Disco. The band obviously have a lot of brilliant and inventive musical ideas, the track has a real sense of creativity and of enjoyment. It’s a joy to listen to and has hidden depth beneath it’s youthful, teenage angsty exterior.
