Track: The Clear – The Planets

If you fell in love with Sheffield’s The Clear’s previous single Maria Browne (we certainly did) as it washed all over 6Music playlists and elsewhere, you’ll be pretty glad to hear that ahead of their debut album Patchwork becoming available on vinyl, they’ve released a new single taken from it, The Planets.

The band describe the song – a quirly analogy of dying love, as ‘Nancy Sinatra in 1950’s space!’, it’s blessed with the sort of timeless melody that shakes you out of your indie landfill based coma, and gazing in wonder. Add to that this cinematic orchestration, with lush strings, morricone style guitars and chimes and bells playfully adding to the tune, you have something rather special. Throw in Jules’ frankly lovely vocal and it’s unforgettable.
