Saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael has released her debut album, ‘The River Doesn’t Like Strangers’ as the debut signing to Shabaka Hutchings’ (The Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet, Shabaka and the Ancestors) new label Native Rebel Recordings. Carmichael has shared one of the tracks taken from the album – ‘There Is You And You’.
About the track Carmichael comments:
“The name of this track is a reference to the idea that we each experience the world from the perspective of ourselves at the centre first before anyone or anything else,” Chelsea reflected on ‘There Is You and You’. “How you choose to move/interact with the world from that starting point is up to you.”
A lively track with Carmichaels sax taking the lead over incessant drumming that gets right under your skin infecting you with its groove as the track builds on its main theme that Carmichael explores. Double bass is added into the mix along with some superb guitar work courtesy of David Okumu, who goes crazy all over the fretboard, creating a powerful and addictive jazz.
