Track: Brisbane’s sparkling Cheap Date unveil a dreamy poppy delight ‘Woman to You’, and announce launch gig.

Proving itself yet again to be a hotspot for unbounded talent of the shoegaze/dream pop variety, Brisbane has produced another dreamy dream pop delight in the band Cheap Date, whose new single ‘Woman to You’ is a gloriously shimmering immersive slice of heaven. Punctuated by crisp dappling guitars and wry, humourous lyrics, singer Lara Dee’s voice is velvet-cloaked and languorous: there is a sparkling tone and mesmerising aura.

A gentle acoustic strum carries a tremeloed guitar jangle under the backing vocals and the sweet dreamy vocals recounting love, doubt and anxiety about a relationship:

My momma, she would kill me if she knew the things I do – I hope I’m a woman to you.

The themes are very personal and relatable – Dee says of the track:

‘Woman To You’ is a song that I wrote as a way to express and come to terms with my sexuality as a young adult. I had spent my whole teenage life convinced that I would grow up, get a job, find a husband, build that white picket fence and have kids. (Previous single) ‘Beside Me’  was written about the last real relationship I had with a man before coming out as bisexual. This song is the follow up to that. It is really an expression of obsession. Which sounds a bit creepy….but I mean it in the most innocent way. I was suddenly allowing myself to feel and think about women in a way that felt natural and inherently like my true self.

Self-doubt and anxiety never sounded so exhilarating:

Cheap Date snuggle up with other local luminaries such as Hatchie and Rinse, to name but a few, that are rapidly making Brisbane the epicentre of dream pop cool.

Cheap Date will be launching the single in Brisbane tonight at the Brightside – details and tickets here.
