Brighton’s rising indie-rockers bacci pouch have unleashed their scuzzy yet infectious new single, Normal People, out today.
Reminiscent of the Buzzcocks with it’s buzzing, sharp tone, ‘Normal People’ is a shining example of bacci pouch’s ability to capture he energy of their live shows on record. With a driving, intricate picked bassline at its heart, the track builds a dynamic soundscape of boxy drums, fuzzy guitar melodies, and understated yet affirmingly catchy vocals. The result is a messy yet evocative 70s-inspired tone, with punk undertones woven into a sound rooted in indie-rock sensibilities.
Frontman James Neighbour sheds light on the track’s inspiration:
“‘Normal People describes the encounter of two people struggling with everyday life, feeling disconnected from society and not ‘normal.’ Through finding common ground, they realise that they need each other to live out a fantasy of normalcy. It’s a statement on feeling alien within the patterns of everyday life, but at its core, it’s about finding that one special person who makes you feel understood.”
Recorded at the renowned Forum Recording Studios with acclaimed producer Erik Miles (Soft Play, Kate Nash, Heavy Jelly) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, The K’s, The Courteeners), ‘Normal People’ captures both a raw sense of energy and a commercial indie flair. Known for electrifying live performances, the band has headlined shows across Brighton and supported acts like The Dream Machine, The Skinner Brothers, and Aerial Salad as well as gaining national radio play from John Kennedy on Radio X.
