Brighton’s quartet Canned Pineapple have announced the upcoming new EP Big Break and unveiled the radiant, fun and infectiously catchy of their latest single, ‘Jessie Met Jane’.
Stylistically fuzzy and energetic, ‘Jessie Met Jane’ is a brilliant representation of the bands scuzz-pop sound. Pleasingly messy with its boxy production, biting guitar licks and topped with a swaggering delivery of the relentlessly catchy lead vocal line, the track captures the sense of quirky and buoyant sound which makes the band so exciting and fresh.
The single comes of the back of a big first half of 2024 for the band Canned Pineapple: making a splash with their international debut at New York’s New Colossus Festival, drawing packed crowds at The Great Escape and earning praise across national press and radio.
Reflecting on the creation of Jessie Met Jane, vocalist Seán Drury recalls the fittingly chaotic inspiration behind the track: “We wrote this tune when we were staying at our friend’s flat one time on tour. In the flat above, there were these three people arguing all night long; we imagined them being caught in a love triangle. It was a heavy night, and I ended up writing a song about our deluded vision of their reality.”
The track, produced by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Panic Shack), channels this chaotic energy into a fizzing, fuzzed-out anthem that perfectly embodies the band’s electrifying live presence.
