Whisper it quietly, but over the course of the last three decades or so, BMX Bandits have crafted some of the greatest pop singles of the intervening years. I reckon anyway. Their new single, “The World Was Round,” penned by Andrew Pattie, adds another gem to this illustrious canon. Taken from their latest long player Dreamers on the Run, it’s a beautiful, glistening song wrapped in an indie pop exterior, but its allure would shine through regardless of its backing.
Andrew Pattie’s song celebrates the healing properties of love and music, emphasizing that in a world often lacking in truth, love can serve as our anchor. Pattie reflects, “This song again deals with deep sadness and depression and the confusion I often feel about interacting with the world. Love is important to ground you. I’m very lucky to have a stable and loving partner. This song is for Alexis.”
Musically, “The World Was Round” draws inspiration from Womack and Womack, classic Motown vocal groups, and Todd Rundgren. The track features a soul-tinged pop string arrangement and showcases a killer guitar solo by Andrew, adding depth and texture to the song’s rich sonic landscape.
Catch BMX Bandits live at their upcoming shows, including dates in Edinburgh, Leicester, London, and Middlewich, and experience their timeless pop magic firsthand.
