Big Warm Bed (Jacob Andrews) shares emotive new single ‘Jackie’, take from his debut EP ‘Shores I’m Swimming In’ due out September 26th via Dance To The Radio. The track was produced by Harry Jordan at Bam Bam Studios and mixed by Joel Johnston.
Speaking ahead of his latest EP reveal, Big Warm Bed explained:
“I wrote ‘Jackie’ in a 20 minute bout of, I guess, “‘pre grief” one day when I was feeling a certain way about my mum’s terminal illness. It just sort of rolled out of my mouth and onto the page as I was playing the chords. She had been ill for a long time before she passed away and it used to consume me most days, the anxiety of her inevitable death. I sing about not crying, not even for the sake of a goodbye, which is wholly contradictory as I have cried a lot since I said my last goodbye to her and I still do, a lot, as anyone who loses a parent would. I think, at that moment, I was just trying to be strong for her and my family.”
Detailing its accompanying visuals, he added:
“The video was shot by my manager, Ryan. We were toying with ideas and kind of just said ‘let’s just go for a walk and film it up at Otley chevin?’ I know, an incredibly groundbreaking and original idea that has never ever been done before, right? It was Ryan’s idea to source a red umbrella as to have something that stood out against the green and grey of the landscape; I think it also fits in well with the lyrics as well-it was a happy series of things falling in place for the video. He shot it on his VHS camera and I edited it all in the same day.”
A slight change from the upbeat indie of his previous single, ‘Jackie’ is a slice of raw emotion wrapped in mournful guitar heart destroying lyrics, the way he sings, “I won’t cry”, hits hard. Some artists just have this innate ability to project pure raw emotion with very little in the way of words. Andrews is one such artist and it is both devastating and beautiful.
