Track: Balancing Act – Laylow

Isy Townsend

Backseat Mafia’s favourites Balancing Act have shared their new single, ‘Laylow.’ This is coupled with the announcement of their sophomore EP, ‘Tightropes and Limericks, ‘ due for release on October 4th via The Vertex.

Expanding on ‘Laylow’, guitarist Jackson Couzens shares:

“This track was written on a writing trip we did to the French Alps. We were snowed into this little space and sharing rooms and sofas, we couldn’t really go anywhere, so it was perfect for writing. We all found it funny that despite being surrounded by snow in below zero temperatures, the bulk of what we wrote was actually more sunny and upbeat, and this one was no exception.”

Featuring intricate guitar lines over powerful drums and driving bass lines with that ever-present swagger of a confident band with a tight grip on its songwriting prowess. With the band well and truly grounded in their own sound, ‘Laylow’ is another Balancing Act banger that sounds cool enough for any stage festival, hall or arena.

Tightropes and Limericks is a triumphant next instalment that channels the euphoric energy of their impressive live shows with festival-ready anthems and bold ambition. Recorded across multiple studios, the band self-recorded sections at Studio Alouette in France, some parts with Joshua Rumble (Gang of Four, Black Country, New Road) at Big Red Studios in Cheshire, and also spent time recording with Richard Woodcraft (Radiohead, Liam Gallagher, Rachel Chinouriri) in London.

Of Tightropes and Limericks, Balancing Act shared, “[The EP is] announcing the next chapter of the band, we know what Balancing Act is and where it can go, this body of work is another teaser of what that could be. We’re tighter than ever and far more sure of ourselves, we’re ready to shift up another gear”.
