Track: Awst Channels Sufjan Stevens On Delicate New Single ‘Afallon’

Awst shares the delicate and wistful new single ‘Afallon’.

Sitting somewhere between Sufjan Stevens, Jack Johnson, Elliot Smith and even Neil Young, the single brings together a gently swaying soundscape of strummed acoustic guitar, picked electrics, distant drums, subtle synths and whispery vocals. Relaxing, melancholic and yet carrying a euphoric, thoughtful undertone, the single carries an infectious otherworldly nature through it’s bouncing vocal lines as the track gradually grows towards the elegant, unstated guitar solo at the end.

The solo project of Eryri musician Cynyr Hamer, Awst talks about how the song was an attempt to recapture childhood memories of long hot summers in the 90s, spending time with family in his grandparents home: “over the years our grandparents’ home has become like a mythical magical place which exists only in our memories, like the mythical story of Avalon.”

Having been involved in various other bands over the years, such as Worldcub, Hippies Vs Ghosts, and We Are Animal, Awst has experienced a wide range of previous successes. Now back with new material, Awst looks to cement his place as a successful solo artist in his own right.
