UK Doom quartet Atavist have released ‘Loss’, the second single taken from their new album, III: Absolution, out 19th June via Candlelight Records. ‘Loss’ follows the single ‘Self Realisation’, which was released earlier this year.
Reformed in 2017 after a ten year hiatus, Atavist, triumphantly return in 2020 with a brand new studio album. Titled ‘III: Absolution’, the album will be released via Candlelight Records on 19th June and is the band’s third full length, coming almost thirteen years after their highly acclaimed 2007 release, ‘II: Ruined’ (Profound Lore Records).
At just over 16 minutes long the track allows the band to take there time and play with composition. The addition of Jo Quail on Cello (Mono/My Dying Bride), and Bianca Blezard on Viola/Violin (Winterfylleth) act like a soothing balm after the heavier sections of this song. The track weaves between the two dynamics. Loud and quiet, soft and aggressive. The doom sections sweep away the sweetness of the strings and scourge the land putting epic in the doom genre. Just wait till the cello outro which is the very sound of loss.
