T.G. Shand, the nom de plume for Ōtautahi/Christchurch resident Annemarie Duff, continues to stun with her brilliant output – transcendent dreamy pop with a shoegaze edge. Her new single ‘Scenes’ with a stunning accompanying visualiser continues her upward trajectory – a shimmering curtain of light emanating from the South Island of the land of the long white cloud like the Aurora Australis in the skies.
After a slightly darker turn in her last single. ‘Scenes’ has a soft aquatic feel about it – not necessarily lighter but diaphanous and sparkling with sounds that seems to float like a silken veil in the air. In this track more than ever before, there is detectable a Cocteau Twins haze that is augmented by the wispy, dreamy vocals displaying a gravity-defying range.
The accompanying video is arresting and draws on a groundbreaking living digital visualiser controlled by real-time weather data from Lyttelton via the MetService API. Developed by Annemarie’s Cusp Art Studio, it uses art to connect the audience with real-time scenes.
‘Scenes’ is out now and available to stream and download here.
