London-based Norwegian-Scottish duo amilost release the vibrantly catchy, ethereal and otherworldly new single ‘Bloom’, accompanied by a hypnotic new video.
Marking their first release since signing with the Stockholm-based tastemaker label Icons Creating Evil Art., ‘Bloom’ offers a rich and atmospheric electronic soundscape, departing from the more organic piano led sound of previous releases but keeping the depth in emotion. Gently auto-tuned vocals give the track a processed edge whilst swirls of synths and tight electronic beats create a wide, cinematic backdrop. At once commercial and catchy whilst retaining a subtle alternative, gloomy edge, the track closes with a euphoric final chorus before disappearing into a wash of reverb.
A profoundly personal song that delves into the emotional landscape of ending a toxic relationship and the subsequent journey of self-discovery and renewal.
The band share: “‘Bloom’ is a bittersweet anthem about being single, the road that leads you to it, and the feeling of gratitude for the journey,” Sigrid explained. “Coming out of that toxic relationship feels like thawing, but soon you’re ready to bloom and make life beautiful again on your own terms. Blooming after a bad situation is such a high that you don’t want to come down from, and it really motivates you to focus on yourself and be grateful for everything you have.”
Since their debut in 2022 with ‘Pillowside’, amilost has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of Scandinavian pop and cinematic grandeur. Their debut EP, Introspective Souvenirs, garnered significant attention, with singles landing on Apple Music’s New Music Daily and New In Alternative & Indie & Chill playlists, as well as Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Pop and New Music Friday. The duo also received airplay on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, with their debut single ‘Pillowside’ achieving over 500 plays on Norway’s leading station, NRK P3. This success led to notable performances at Norway’s prestigious industry showcase by:Larm, a support slot for Tom Speight at Islington Assembly Hall, and a sold-out show with Murdo Mitchell at Omera.
The release of ‘Bloom’ marks a new chapter for amilost as they continue to evolve and push the boundaries of their sound. With the backing of Icons Creating Evil Art, the duo is poised to reach even greater heights.
