London-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and performer Alfie Templeman has just dropped his latest single, ‘Hello Lonely’, teasing fans with a taste of what’s to come from his eagerly awaited second album, ‘Radiosoul’, ready for release on June 7th via Chess Club Records / AWAL Recordings.
This track is absolutely juicy, and with each new release, Alfie Templeman is crafting a vibrant and expansive sound, breathing an exciting new life into the pop genre.
Explaining the inspiration behind ‘Hello Lonely’, Templeman delves into the existential ponderings that emerged during and after the pandemic, capturing the universal sentiment of uncertainty. He reflects on his own struggles with maintaining social connections amidst the demands of a bustling career, where the silence of solitude becomes palpable. ‘Hello Lonely’ becomes a poignant exploration of navigating those profound moments of quiet introspection and safeguarding one’s sanity.
This latest release follows hot on the heels of the announcement of ‘Radiosoul’ and the earlier release of singles ‘Eyes Wide Shut’. Templeman offers insights into the creative process behind the album, recounting a transformative journey that saw him reignite his passion for music during a trip to the US in 2023. Collaborating with an eclectic mix of producers, including Nile Rodgers and Oscar Scheller, in both the USA and South London, Templeman embarked on a spontaneous songwriting process. Drawing from ideas spanning several years, he crafted a collection of tracks that capture the essence of his transition into his twenties, embracing the unpredictable nature of life’s journey.
At the core of the upcoming album, lies an assortment of tracks that signal Templeman’s venture into acid-pop territory. With each song intentionally distinct from the last, the album promises a dynamic exploration of the weird and the wonderful, blending moments of exuberance with raw introspection. In celebration of the release, Alfie will also be performing a series of intimate record store shows across the UK (tickets here).
