Philadelphia duo Sound Photographers have shared their debut single, “Shade,” which is now available on all streaming services. The group, which consists of Hoozmo and Indy James, plan to release one single per month, for a year, followed by the release of their first album.
According to Sound Photographers, “Fundamentally, the song is about hope. The verses are about our collective journey through this crazy time. Things are what they are right now, and we can be courageous in the face of it. Getting there together makes us stronger. The sky don’t feel the thunder.”
Sound Photographers cite a variety of inspirations for their music, which owes as much to Talking Heads as it does to Outkast, and the Native Tongues Movement during hip hop’s Golden Age.
Hoozmo and Indy James met at a show in 2017, and began to immerse themselves in the independent music scene in Philadelphia. The pair wrote the lyrics to “Shade” together. The song also features production by Drea Young.
The song is a good demonstration of Hoozmo’s facile flow, which blends well with James’ lovely voice, and the duo display an overall innate and easy chemistry.
“We’re going where we’re going and we’ll get there any way.”
