For those who were charmed by their 2016 album Sweetooth, Xylaroo’s recent announcement of a new single created a certain frisson of excitement, as the ever likeable Holly and Coco Chant have not released much in the way of new material for far too long.
The hugely enjoyable “Yesterdays” sees Xylaroo move on from the folk-pop-rock of their debut and towards a more produced RnB / Soul-Pop sound, which hopefully will find them pick up a bit more well-deserved airplay. Whether this is a change of direction for Xylaroo, or just the ladies taking the opportunity to something a bit different in the medium of a standalone single, “Yesterdays” is good stuff, and should generate no small amount of enthusiastic anticipation for album number two.
