The Levellers, the Brighton band, who for the last 30 years have been blending Folk, Rock and Punk with a large serving of pop sensibility and poignant lyrical themes, are back! They have a new single ‘Calling Out’, taken from their incoming album ‘Peace’ (Out 14th August) accompanied by a music video.
The song is classic Levellers. It’s Punky, Folky, Poppy and thought-provoking. Musically, it’s full of crunchy guitar riffs and luscious arpeggios, plus fiddle and a stomping Bass-guitar-powered beat.
The chorus is a instant smasher, powered by the distinctive vocal clout of singer Simon Friend, complete with poignantly relevant lyrics.
The music video follows Simon as he navigates a hellishly prosaic world of early morning starts, a soul crushing commute (complete with mugger!) and a mind numbing work-life. An everyday Twilight Zone!
The video is powerful in it’s clipped-editing visual style, enhancing the oppressive predicament that Simon’s character finds himself in.
‘Calling Out’ is a soaring anthem, hopefully to become a favourite at future live Levellers’ shows.
Beautiful days lie ahead.
