Sheffield’s The Buffalo Skinners have announced a new 7″ is out via Loose Chat Records on June 21st, and have revealed a new video for ‘Do What You Want’. It marks a fresh start for the group, for whom this release will be new lead guitarists Phil Nixon’s first, and it was recorded to two-inch tape with Jamie Lockhart and Rob Slater at Leeds’ Greenmount studios (The Cribs, Brawlers, The Vaccines).
“It’s about escaping judgement of your individuality in the suburb you’ve grown up in, to walk the diverse city, invisible and accepted,” says Phil of the song, his first co-written contribution to the band.
With bits of The Jam, Mersey beat and The Fratellis all stuffed under the bands hat, what comes out is something that ducks and dives around, full of harmonies that leaves a smile on your face and a chorus that you can really, well, ahem….hang your hat on.
Check out the accompanying video, set in the Steel City, capturing some of its charm and character.
