SEE: The animation for the bright electro groove of Myd feat. Mac DeMarco’s ‘Moving Men’

QUENTIN LEPOUTRE, better known to us out there in the world of Gallic grooves as Myd, has made what seems on paper an unlikely alliance with Canadian indie rock star Mac DeMarco for his latest single “Moving Men”. Watch the cute animation for a smooth, sophisticated two-hander of a groove below.

Actually they’ve had a mutual appreciation thing goin’ on since they first met at one of Mac’s Paris shows several years back after being introduced by mutual friends Gaspard Augé, of Justice; and Busy P, head honcho of Myd’s label Ed Banger label.

“Moving Men” will feature on Myd’s next album, Born A Loser, due for release on Ed Banger Records.

Myd came to Los Angeles in March to shoot a music video and begin a tour, right as the ‘rona slammed into the forefront of our consciousnesses. When the dates were necessarily pulled, he decided to use the time wisely and look up Mac – whose own tour also now lay in ruins.

The song itself came from Myd’s method of arrival: he was tasked with delivering a Toyota Celica convertible, a car that Mac craved, and which was used in the video for Justice’s “Fire”. He was, quite literally, a moving man.

Mac says: “I met Myd in Paris a couple years ago, then when he was in Los Angeles he came over one night and we wrote this song about moving men, he reminds me of some kind of bird, I like this guy.”

In the video, directed by Alexandre Nart, the line-drawn Mac and Myd are removal men more concerned with smoking weed and slacking off than their day job. It’s a bright and, dare I say it, summery slice of electro pop. It might be something we need in the November gloom.
