Realise is the new track from Liverpool five piece Tear Talk, aka Josh Miller (Vocals/ Guitar), Liam Bates (Guitar), Iain Currie (Bass Guitar), Luis Winder (Keyboards) & Tom Manning (Drums). It comes off the back of their now long sold out debut 7″ ‘B R E A T H E’, which came out last year via Bleeding Gold Records, and is taken from their forthcoming EP, Ruins, which drops on January 19th on the bands own label, War Room Records.
It opens with this tumbling piano feature over a lolloping drum machine beat, Josh Miller’s baritone given this arid dryness with these simple, echoey guitar figures. It’s stripped back, moments of silence almost as important as the sparse backing, given a little more weight by these icy synth chords. It’s both mysterious and strangely beautiful.
The accompanying video was a collaborative project between the band and Freakbeat Films, aiming to ‘capture the prevailing sense of isolation in contemporary urban life’, at least according to the press release. Certainly there’s an abundance of urban landscapes and arty visions of the hero of the piece looking suitably isolated. It was shot in Liverpool – check it out, here
