Birmingham’s Swim Deep have returned now as a five piece, with the additions of ex-Childhood drummer Tomas Tomaski, and guitarist Robbie Wood, and have a new album, Emerald Classics, out on October 4th via Cooking Vinyl.
From it they’ve released track, album opener To Feel Good, which also features Margate’s Social Singing Choir. It’s an ode to modern unemployed/unemployable life “I’ve woke up this morning and the birds are singing their song / and somehow even they sound skint and bored”, says Austin in the verses over this constantly flitting 90s synth stained backing. The choir give the track a tangible sense of the gospel, and add to the uplifting sense of the track, despite the desperate helplessness of the lyrics.
