Out right now on Boy Better Know is the new single from London grime producer and MC Skepta. It’s proved to be a fruitful time with March seeing Skepta join Kanye West onstage at both the Brit Awards (for a performance of ‘All Day’) and a night at London’s Koko. He’s also returning the favour to Drake – bookending ‘Shutdown’ with samples of his work, after Drake borrowed a line from Skepta’s ‘That’s Not Me’ for his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late mixtape.
He’s also released a video for the single. Directed by Grace Ladoja, it was filmed in that there London, around the (apparently, according to the press release) amongst the brutalist towers that surround The Barbican. It opens with this wonky sounding synth line, with this scattered beat over the back providing the sum total of the accompaniment. Over the top, Skepta waxed lyrical using his considerable skills, angry but never ranting, clever but not without making a point.
