Anyone who heard Purity Ring‘s 2015 album Another Eternity will have been eagerly awaiting news of the follow up. It has been 5 years, but following on from the recent reveal of the first new track Stardew, now two more tracks have been released. First up is Peacefall,
The video shows the trademark sugary sweet vocals being stitched onto cloth, while in the background, the track fades in and out with its strings and discordant bells, trying to build a sense of unease.
Then there is Pink Lightning,
The distorted vocals and jittery nervous electronics soundtrack a voyage through an early 2000 Myst style video (actually a real game released to fans). It’s another great example of when Purity Ring ring show their distinctiveness. When those hopeful vocals roll over the bleak mechanical sounds it makes you feel something like a small ray of light has entered the very strange world we are caught up in.
Womb is out on 4AD on April 3rd.
