Out right now is the new video for ‘Partner in Crime’, from 20 year old Londoner Nayana IZ. Its the follow up trio her rather brilliant debut EP ‘Smoke Y Fly’, and marks the end of an important year for her.
Of the song, she describes it “is about that person you trust most even if that person might be yourself. It’s my appreciation for the love we’ve shared and a reminder to them that I always got their back. We’ve been betrayed and hurt before but we know we always got each other through all the pains and all the wins. This is a celebration of us and how far we’ve come, we did it.”
Mixing jazz, beats and R&B up to make something that is as sultry as it is smoking, Nayana’s smooth rhymes and vocals drape over the funk filled background like velvet. As she lays down these beautiful soulful hooks and bars, the 80s synths and brass bubble and pop underneath.
It’s quite something. Check out the similarly sultry, and beautifully shot video, here
