With her debut EP Church, out now via True Panther Sounds, North Carolina’s Kelsey Lu has released a video for the track Empathy. Already having worked with the likes of Blood Orange, Kelela, Wet and Organized Noize and opened for Florence + the Machine and Grimes in Brooklyn and Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington and Jamie xx at London’s Hyde Park, she’s becoming one of the most talked about new artists of the moment.
The EP’s title comes from its unique recording process—Kelsey Lu recorded live in a single take at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with her cello, her voice and her loop pedal, and Empathy has these long beautifully lmelodic lines, while her wistful vocal almost becomes eerie with these cello lines that smudge together and weave things into a mysterious bundle.
