The bulldozer onslaught of the fabulous IDLES continues with vigour in their new single ‘When The Lights Come On’. And as per form, it is not all noise: a lot of light shines from the output of this ferocious band steeped in a sense of intelligence and compassion, heated by a shed load of intelligence. ‘When The Light Comes On’ illustrated the many shades of colour this band has, with its dark electronic undercurrents, insistent bass, clanging, wailing instruments and the disassociated cold distant vocals.
Singer Joe Talbot says of the track:
Our third offering from Crawler. A poem of light and sound exploring the cold light of day. Thank you.
The monochrome video, written and directed by Talbot and Lee Kiernan edited by Holding Hands with Horses features George Garrett of Bristolian band Heavy Lungs is surreal, enigmatic and brooding like the track itself:
‘Crawler’ can be streamed and downloaded here.
