Everything Everything have released a brand new EP, ‘A Deeper Sea’ out now on RCA Records. This is the first new material we’ve seen from the four-piece since their brilliant fourth album A Fever Dream. A huge commercial success, the record hit the top 5 on it’s release, being the joint highest charting album of their career to date. This brand new EP comes to the fore as the band prepare for the launch of their UK tour, performing in some of the biggest venues they have ever headlined. Annie Mac has made one of the tracks, ‘Breadwinner’ the hottest Record on Monday 26th February on her BBC Radio 1 show, continuing a run of four straight tracks that have had this honour. They’ve now released a video for another, The Mariana. The track sees the band in contemplative mood, singer Jonathan Higgs singing much of the time in his lower register, giving the track a wistful feel. As ever with EE, its full of ambition and ideas.
Speaking about ‘The Mariana’ video, Higgs explains, “The song talks about male identity and the current high rate of suicide among men in the UK, I wanted to capture some men in a natural setting – no actors or contrived sequences. I settled on amateur football as it’s so closely allied to male identity, and a game is a good place to look for unguarded emotions, separate from the everyday. We filmed The Granada Old Boys at Manchester Tennis and Football Centre, in the shadow of the Eithad Stadium.”
