“The most exciting guitar band in the UK” according to Nigel Harding, head of playlists at Radio 1. A bold statement, but it’s one that seems to be getting support from every quarter. Hotly tipped by many to be one of the biggest acts of 2014, Blackpool trio, Darlia, are already drawing comparisons to the likes of Nirvana no less.
Their ‘Knock, Knock’ EP, especially, ‘Choke On Bones’ is very reminiscent of ‘Bleach’ era Kurt and Co. Even though he claims that “..comparisons to Nirvana are the strangest thing, because they’re a band I hardly listen to.” with his dirty blond basin chop, lead singer Nathan Day bares more than a fleeting resemblance.
Comparisons aside, Nathan, Dave Williams (bass), Jack Bentham (drums) are a band in the ascendance. Darlia are loud, full of energy and geared up to take 2014 by storm.
Debut EP ‘Knock, Knock”, produced by Cam Blackwood, who twiddled the knobs for Florence and The Machine, has been very well received and the live shows are gathering them an ever increasing fan base.
Have a listen to the EP and draw your own comparisons. Just make sure you turn it up full.
Darlia resume touring this next week. Backseat Mafia will be dropping in on the Sheffield gig and feeding back accordingly. This could be the start of something very big. Make sure you don’t miss out.
