If there’s anyone that knows the inside story of chasing fame, its Arizona hip-hop duo, Cut Throat Logic. In the decade since the two, JustUs and Deonte got together, they worked hard tirelessly promoting their shows using street teams, flyers, merchandising and networking. That has brought them shows with heavyweights such as KRS- One, Raekwon, Snoop Dogg and The Game, but never that one breakthrough moment to elevate themselves into that league.
Their latest song, ironically about the deception of fame and celebrity might be the one track that helps them get there. It lays down downcast synth lines and stuttering drums as over the top Deonte spits his thoughtful, easy flow. The chorus moves into a sung RnB feel, but it never becomes corny, always cool.
Its accompanied by a self-directed video of the boys performing the song in downtown Phoenix. An album, Lights Go Out, is due out shortly. On this form, it might be the start of something pretty big. Lets hope so.
