Melbourne’s Cut Copy are nearing the release date for their anticipated sixth album, ‘Freeze, Melt’ – out on 21st August via Cutters Records, and to ramp up the excitement they’ve released a new video to accompany third single ‘Like Breaking Glass’.
Of the track, the bands Dan Whitford says “In the beginning ‘Like Breaking Glass’ started out as a completely different track. Before one weekend I was mucking around in the studio with just a drum beat and an acid bassline. I never managed to finish it, but when I came back to it the next week there was something about that beat that felt compelling, so I started writing a song over the top of it. It is about the conflicted feelings of a relationship that has begun to unravel. Where sometimes against all logic, you discover that affections run deep just as a break up becomes inevitable.“
There’s a retro feel about Like Breaking Glass, but it’s pure unadulterated (synth) pop, with bubbling electonics and melodies and choruses to die for, in a short of Tears for Fears at their best way. The accompanying video is, as you’d perhaps expect, footage of breaking glass. Check it out, here
The band have also announced a handful of European tour dates for next year, including a night at Londons Roundhouse in March.
