After recently surprising us with his first solo debut, Colin Moulding (see my review here) has issued a video for the title track of the EP/single ‘The Hardest Battle’
The video is nothing short of spectacular with the sort of majestic pomp and circumstance you would expect from the former XTC singer/bass player. I wrote of the track that it was a baroque, sprightly effervescent pop wonder that bounces with an incandescent canter. Bucolic, pastoral and highly intelligent: words one always associated with XTC.
The video, directed and filmed by Henry Meredith, is set in an ecclesiastical backdrop, filmed at St Mary’s Uffington (interior) and Salisbury Cathedral (exterior), featuring Moulding himself and Tomas Silberberg as George IV, with the costume provided by the Royal Shakespeare Company. It’s as rich and sumptuous as the track itself:
‘The Hardest Battle’ can be ordered on CD single exclusively via Burning Shed Records.
