Taken from the legendary dance-punks forthcoming EP ‘Certified Heavy Kats’ – Do the Dial Tone is the first new music from !!! Since last years much lauded ‘Wallop’ long player.
Of the EP, frontman Nic Offer says “This is us exploring the outer edges of what we do. We try a lot of different things with the hopes of coming up with something fresh by getting it wrong. How wrong did we get it this time?”
Built over the icy synths that surround it, Do The Dial Tone is lavishly covered in vocal harmonies that keep the cold out, as it bursts into two-step / hand-clap territory it has that innate funk the band seem to be able to hold over everything they touch. It’s cool and gripping and effortlessly melodic.
It comes accompanied by a new lyric video from animator Cheng-Hsu Chung, who worked with the band on the deliriously freaky video for the ‘Wallop’ single ‘Couldn’t Have Known’. “We thought of ‘Do The Dial Tone’ as a KLF/Enigma-type call and response on the eve of destruction,” says Offer, and Chung has responded in brilliant fashion
