London duo Cassels are gearing up to the releae of their second album, The Perfect Ending, which drops of 6th September via Big Scary Monsters Recordings. From it the band have released a new video for the title track.
Much of the album is based on environmental issues, with The Perfect Ending being one of them. As singer and guitarist Jim Beck says The title track, for example, is about all the plants deciding enough is enough and conspiring to wipe out humanity before we take them with us. For me, humanity being wiped off the face of the Earth is a happy ending (though we decided we couldn’t call the album ‘The Happy Ending’ due to the obvious connotations with seedy massage parlours…).
The track itself is this bruising dose of dirty blues / post punk at its climaxes, but its a quiet and stripped back affair in the spoken verses. The whole constrasts of it keep you on the edge of your seat, the sudden moments of silence veering thing off down a more experimental, art rock route.
