DIY pop star Boy Pablo, aka 21 year old singer-songwriter Nicolas Muñoz, has released the video for his new single ‘Hey Girl’. After racking up 500 million streams and selling out shows all over the place – including London’s Electric Ballroom and Brixton Electric in the last year, the track is taken from his forthcoming debut album, out on October 23rd via 777 Music. It’s this charming slice of indie pop, this bubblegum thing that mixes up the melancholy and optimistic in a tune that digs its claws straight into, telling the tale of new love in a yearning rather beautiful way.
Of the video, directed by Eivind Landsvik and narrated by Rick Kirkham (from Netflix’s Tiger King), Boy Pablo says it came about “in quarantine, watching a whole lot of movies. After a lot of bouncing ideas back and forth we wanted to create a narrative of Wachito Rico’s love life, and it was natural to start with ‘hey girl’ as the first chapter of his love life. I can’t wait to show you the rest of the world we have created for this new album and character.”
If you like sweet teenage romance movies, you’re gonna love this. And if you don’t, well, have a heart and watch it anyway. You’ll love it.
