Washington D.C.’s Beauty Pill have just released a new video for the track ‘The Damnedest Thing’, taken from their forthcoming ‘Please Advise’ album, out on May 8th via Northern Spy Records.
The “damnedest Thing’ is this bubbling cauldron of African and eastern sounds, with this incredible sort of quasi-jazz drumming through the verses, and these long melodic phrases. It rings the bell of electronica and runs close to the dark anxiety of post-punk and pop, and just about everything else. Dazzling stuff.
Of the video, directed by Drew Doucette and described by the band as a ‘Textfilm’, band leader Chad Clark explains “The video presents the (phantasmagoric) lyrics alongside the (ludic, dry) commentary and requires the viewer to keep up with both. I posit that if we had added visual images onto that, it would have been too much for the brain.”
